Speaker Sapkota urges UML to come to negotiation to end parliament obstruction

KATHMANDU, Oct 13: Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Agni Sapkota has urged the main opposition party, CPN-UML, to come to the negotiation table to resolve the deadlock seen in parliament. 

Arguing that there is no alternative to negotiation to ensure smooth functioning of the parliament, Speaker Sapkota maintained that all parties represented in the parliament have equal responsibility to ehnance dignity of the parliament. While arguing that he had tried his best to remain neutral in the functioning of the parliament, Sapkota said that the UML needs to come to the negotiation table by reviewing its decision to obstruct parliament businesses. 

"I may also have to review all the works done in the past. I hope they [the UML] will also review their works," said Speaker Sapkota. "Let's all review our works and initiate negotiation with positive thinking."

Speaker Sapkota also said that there is no alternative to negotiation no matter how big may be the problem. Stating that it is natural to have some interests and prejudices in politics, he further expressed hope that Goddess Durga will help develop positive attitude in all political parties. "I will put best of my efforts to pursue a formal, informal and track I and track II diplomacy to arrive at a consensus," he added.

The UML has been obstructing parliament meeting alleging that Speaker Sapkota had acted as an accomplice to the split of the UML by not taking action against 14 lawmakers including senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal the party recommended dismissing them from the post of lawmakers. The parliament has not been able to function properly right since the reinstatement of parliament due to obstruction posed by the UML lawmakers.
