Souls of my city: A driver’s ultimate ambition

Bijay Lama drives a bus along the Kathmandu-Rasuwa route. At just 15, he had to leave his home after getting into a fight with his friends.  Away from home, he worked as a bus conductor.

Remembering the time he left home, he said, “My mother died when I was young, and my father -- who was in the police --took care of me in my mother’s absence.” Driving along the long Kathmandu-Rasuwa route, Lama makes Rs 3000 a day. Further explaining his aspiration, he added, “My only wish in life now is to own a bus.”
