They have accused the Nepal Army (NA), which assumed control after the escalation of the Gen Z protest on Wednesday, of holding the President hostage. The NA has reportedly exerted pressure on the President to resign.
Social media users argue that the country’s direction should be guided by the Constitution, not the army headquarters.
Following the political turmoil triggered by the Gen Z protests, the country currently remains without a Prime Minister. On Wednesday, Gen Z formally proposed former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as the leader of an interim government. A meeting scheduled at the Army headquarters on Thursday, facilitated by the NA, is expected to make a final decision regarding her leadership.
Meanwhile, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen), who enjoys significant popularity among youths, has also endorsed Karki as interim leader. However, his stance of parliament’s dissolution as a button line has met with backlash from many, terming it as not a long-term solution.
They have urged Gen Z activists to seek a resolution within the framework of the Constitution.
