KATHMANDU, May 4: In a viral video on social media, workers from a private company are seen spraying disinfectant on local people including minors in the middle of a narrow street in Kathmandu.
A group of workers dressed with PPE on the ground are seen asking the people walking the street to close their eyes and raise hands while spraying a 'chemical solution' to stop the spread of coronavirus. However, social media folks have criticized the move calling it absurd.

Dr. Luna Bhatta Sharma, a medical professional, reacted on the Twitter video saying that such an act should immediately be stopped. "Air spraying has no effect on coronavirus. This is hazardous to health," she said.
On Twitter, dozens of others have called on the persons concerned to immediately stop the act calling it irrational.
According to the locals, the workers sprayed disinfectants on the locals in Ombahal as they were distributing relief materials on behalf of the private company.
Perhaps, this was the first incident in Nepal where people were sprayed with disinfectant in a bid to prevent and contain the novel coronavirus.
As of Monday, Nepal has reported 75 coronavirus cases with no fatalities, while 16 people have returned home after recovery.
The World Health Organization has suggested avoiding spraying disinfectant on the human body calling it dangerous for health.
“Do not under any circumstances spray or introduce bleach or any other disinfectant on your body,” the UN health body says. “These substances can be poisonous if ingested and cause irritation and damage to your skin and eyes.”
