“We have not been able to expedite works because of government´s dilly-dallying,” Amitav Chaudhari, coordinator of the SEZ Development Cooperation Committee (SEZ DCC) said. “We want the government to expedite development works so that the local economy can get a boost.”[break]
The government is developing SEZ in Simara by acquiring the 833 bighas of land belonging to Birgunj Sugar Mill.
“Though it has already four years that the government started constructing building inside SEZ, construction works are going on in an unplanned manner,” he added.
Even the officials involved in the construction of the SEZ admit that the progress has been slowed. "Even the blocks that were build are in ruins," Narayan Regmi, an engineer involved in the development of the SEZ, said.
Chaudhari, however, said the development of the SEZ was delayed due to contractor´s unwillingness to complete the task on time.
