The sixth edition of ‘IME-Global IME Bank Nepal Photo Contest 2075’ kicked off on Wednesday at Nepal Art Council, Baber Mahal. The exhibition features 160 photographs selected from about 7,000 photographs from submissions of approximately 1,000 amateurs and professional photographers.
Photo Journalist Club Nepal, in association with Nepal Tourism Board, organized the photo contest. Photojournalist Narendra Shrestha’s photo, featuring a water burial of a child after the Tarai floods of 2017, bagged the title of Photo of the Year along with a cash prize of Rs 100,000. Shrestha announced that he would donate Rs 70,000 to Kamal Sada’s family and the remaining Rs 30,000 to the family of late journalist Yadav Thapaliya.
In the competition the top three photographs in each category bagged Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000, respectively. A panel of judges comprising Indian photographer Pablo Bartholomew, Prateek Pradhan, editor of the online news portal Baahrakhari, senior photojournalist Chandra Shekhar Karki, senior photographer Mani Lama, artist Sujan Chitrakar and AFP photojournalist Prakash Mathema judged the submissions. According to the PJ Club, the exhibition will also be put on display in Biratnagar, Bhairawah, Pokhara, Nepalgunj, and Dhangadhi.
The exhibition at Nepal Art Council continues till Monday.
