KATHMANDU, April 22: A group of six individuals has been apprehended for their alleged involvement in stealing from cooperatives in Jhapa.

Those arrested are 21-year-old Santa Bahadur Syangtan, alias Sunil of Fakhel, Indrasarovar Rural Municipality-5, Makwanpur, 22-year-old Sunil Syangtan, 25-year-old Buddha Syangtan, 30-year-old Somlal Syangtan, 26-year-old Sujan Syangtan and 28-year-old Ajay Rana Magar of Makwanpurgadhi Rural Municipality-7.
DSP Krishna Chand, the spokesperson for Jhapa Police, stated that the group is suspected of stealing approximately Rs 3.17 million. Investigations have revealed that the thefts occurred from 11 cooperatives in Jhapa.
DSP Chand mentioned that the arrests were made in Ithari, Sunsari, and the suspects were subsequently brought to Jhapa in coordination with the Koshi Province Police Office. An investigation into the alleged theft has commenced, with a 5-day deadline for further inquiries.
The police also recovered tools such as hammers, pliers, and wrenches believed to have been used for breaking locks during the thefts. Additionally, the clothing worn during the criminal acts was also seized by the police.
