KATHMANDU, June 10: Police on Wednesday arrested two individuals including a medical doctor for their alleged involvement in stealing health equipment from the Lagankhel-based Patan Hospital.
A team of police from the Metropolitan Police Range Office, Lalitpur detained Prabin Mishra, 36, of Sarlahi, and Ramesh Kumar Sharma, 20, of Mahottari district in connection with the theft. “The arrested are employed at B and B polyclinic in Bardibas. Mishra is a doctor, while Sharma is a health worker,” Senior Superintendent of Police Tek Prasad Rai, who is the chief of Lalitpur Police, told Republica Online.
SSP Rai said the arrested are under police custody for investigation into the case.

“The arrested are accused of stealing a portable ultrasound machine. The machine was stolen from the hospital on May 30. Police arrested the accused with the help of CCTV footage received from the hospital,” he said.
“The arrested had entered the ultrasound room claiming the security guards that they are there to repair technical faults seen in the machine,” said Rai, adding that the police have already recovered the stolen portable ultrasound machine from the arrested persons.
In the meantime, the Lalitpur District Court has already remanded the arrested into five days in custody, allowing police to investigate the case.
Police had arrested both of them from New Baneshwor in Kathmandu at around 11:30 am Wednesday, said SSP Rai.
