The joint struggle committee has staged the sit-in calling for application of the agreements the Government signed with the martyrs’ families and the people injured during the 2006 People’s Movement at different times.[break]
Participants staging the sit-in were infuriated and intensified their protest after learning that Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai who was expected to meet them had left his official residence well before their sit-in started.
President of the Historic People’s Movement, 2006/2007 Martyrs’ Families and Injured Concerned Committee, Meghraj Acharya alleged that the prime minister has rebuffed the families of the martyrs and those injured in the people’s movement that played crucial role in bringing about epoch-making political change in the country.
The Joint Struggle Committee has been calling for constituting a commission for looking after the people injured during the 2006 People’s Movement and declaring people killed in course of that movement martyrs, ensuring the representation of the martyrs families and the injured of the 2006 People’s Movement in various political appointments, providing long-term facilities, relief assistance and treatment services to the martyrs families and the injured people.
