KATHMANDU, Sept 25: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Prakash Man Singh has announced his candidacy for the post of party president.

Addressing a function organized by the party's Kathmandu Metropolitan City-13 Ward Committee on Saturday, the party's former Vice President Singh said that he decided to serve the party as the 'number one man' in the days ahead. Arguing that the party will further sink into a mess if a new leadership is not elected, Singh said he has the will and determination to restore the lost glory of the party.

While claiming that Deuba had failed to work well despite repeatedly getting the opportunities, Singh said that he would file his candidacy for the post of party president in the upcoming 14th general convention scheduled to be held in November. He also said that he is a qualified candidate for the number one post of the party as he has already served the party as the vice president for a long time.

With the announcement of Singh on Saturday, the number of leaders vying for the post of party president of NC has reached five. While President Deuba has announced to contest again for the post of party president, Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, General Secretary Dr Shashank Koirala and Dr Shekhar Koirala have also announced to contest for the post of party president in the upcoming general convention of the party.
