KATHMANDU, Jan 22: The silent period for the National Assembly election starts from 12 midnight today.
The Election Commission (EC) issued a statement, saying that the campaigning has been prohibited since midnight. This period will continue till the end of voting.
During the silent period, political party officials, candidates, fraternal organizations of the party and other persons, institutions or bodies that must follow the code of conduct are not allowed to conduct any kind of discussion, interaction, meetings, conferences, workshops, etc., including election publicity.

Similarly, EC said that no vote solicitation and election campaigning shall be done by any method, process or means and no message, information or propaganda material shall be posted or shared or caused to be posted or shared in favor of or against any political party or candidate through social media, online, print or any other means.
Voting for the National Assembly members will be held on January 25 from 9 AM to 3 PM.
Elections are going to be held for posts of 19 members that are going to be vacant after their six-year tenure. While the tenure of 20 people is over, one person will be nominated by the President.
In this election, women, Dalits, persons with disabilities or minorities and other communities will be elected as members from various provinces and regions.
