Election publicity campaigns forbidden during 'silent period'

KATHMANDU, May 10: The Election Commission (EC) has said that political parties will not be allowed to conduct election related publicity campaigns during 'silent period' which will begin from Thursday midnight and remain effective until the voting concludes.

KATHMANDU, May 10: The Election Commission (EC) has said that political parties will not be allowed to conduct election related publicity campaigns during  'silent period' which will begin from Thursday midnight and remain effective until the voting concludes.


Issuing a press release, the EC has said that the political parties will be barred to conduct any kinds of election related campaigns from Thursday midnight  until the voting concludes.

What not to do during silent period?


According to the Section 69 of the Local Level Election Directive, 2073 BS, election campaigns will be forbidden in the electoral regions until the voting concludes during the silent period.  


During this period, parties are forbidden to organize mass meetings or rallies, launch election publicity campaigns and carry out elecion related activities for 48 hours beginning Thursday midnight.


The first phase of local level elections will begin at 7 am and end at 5 pm on Sunday.
