KATHMANDU, Nov 23: The silent period for the first phase elections will begin from today midnight in 32 districts.
Today is the final day for publicity of the First-Past-The-Post (FPTP) electoral candidates of the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly elections.
The EC spokesperson Nabaraj Dhakal said that the political parties, candidates, representatives of the political parties, independent candidates, civil society leaders, voters and the media are not allowed to indulge in any of the polls related campaigns once the silent period begins.
Silent period for by-election to begin from midnight
The silence period will remain effective for 48 hours until the voting starts.
Spokesperson Dhakal added that the publicity campaigns will continue in 45 districts for the second phase of elections scheduled for December 7.
What not to do during silent period?
- All the election campaigns will be forbidden.
- According to the Election Code of Conduct, candidates and other concerned members should stay away from holding election campaigns. If anyone found breaching the code of silence period, the EC has declared that the violater will be charged Rs 100,000 in cash along with the cancellation of his or her candidacy.
- Election symbols and election publicity materials should not be pasted within a periphery of 300 meters from the polling centers.
- All concerned must comply with the election code of conduct by not using symbolic materials such as clothes, caps, stickers, logos, bags, towels and tattoos that carry election symbols of poll candidates during the silence period. The EC has warned of action against those who violate the poll code.
- Use of social networking sites and electronic media for publicity campaigns and wooing votes are strictly forbidden. If happens, it will be considered a violation of the election code of conducts.
- The media houses were also urged not to disseminate any of the contents violating the election code of conducts as such contents could influence the voters.
