Shrestha, Koju win Kathmandu Marathon titles

KATHMANDU, Oct 7: Tribhuvan Army Club’s Hem Lal Shrestha and Kanchhi Maya Koju have won marathons in their respective categories, in Kathmandu on Saturday.

KATHMANDU, Oct 7: Tribhuvan Army Club’s Hem Lal Shrestha and Kanchhi Maya Koju have won marathons in their respective categories, in Kathmandu on Saturday.


In the men’s category, Shrestha completed the race of 42.99 kilometers in 2 hours 20 minutes and 45 seconds to finish first followed by Army’s Rajan Khatri and Nepal Police’s Bhum Raj Rai in the second and third places. Khatri and Rai took 3 minutes 30 seconds and 4 minutes 45 seconds more, respectively.


In the women’s category, Koju completed the race in 2 hours 50 minutes and 41 seconds to finish first, followed by Sarita Wasi and Raj Pura Prasai in the second and third places. Wasi took 21 minutes 30 secs more than Koju. Prasai completed the race in 3 hours 24 minutes and 8 seconds.

In both categories, the top three were provided with the cash prizes of Rs 50,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively.


In the men’s category for Road Race, Armed Police Force (APF) Club’s Gopi Chandra Parki claimed the first prize whereas Army’s Ramji Basnet came second followed by fellow APF runner Santosh Bikram in the third place.


In the women’s category for the same race, Army’s Biswarup Budha finished first, followed by APF’s Bindra Dhankeshari Shresha and Pushpa Bhandari in the second and third places.


In the men’s category for Wheelchair Race, Krishna Raj Chaudhary won the first prize followed by Rabindra Khatri and Rajesh Shilpakar in the second and third places.


In the women’s category for the same race, Yami Jhanki Magar came first followed by Laxmi Ghimire and Hira Tamang in the second and third places.
