Shiv Lamsal elected as new president of Nepal Press Union

MAKAWANPUR, July 25: Shiv Lamsal has been elected as the president of Nepal Press Union, a well wisher organization of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC)


Lamsal won the post of president by defeating his rival Anita Bindu from the establishment faction of the party during the ninth General Convention of the NPU. He had previously lost to Badri Sigdel in the convention held in Pokhara in 2071 BS.

Lamsal, who was elected as the president, said that he would work in the interests of institution and working journalists. The majority of office bearers have won from the panel led by Lamsal.


Prem KC was elected as Senior Vice President defeating Saroj Adhikari of the establishment faction of the party. Similarly, Nakul Aryal and Bhishmaraj Ojha were elected as vice-presidents (open). While Aryal belongs to rival faction of the party, Ojha is close to establishment faction.


Likewise, Dilip Poudel who works with Republica’s sister publication, Nagarik Daily, was elected to the post of General Secretary. Paudel from rival faction defeated Jagannath Dulal of the establishment faction. Madhav Dhital of the establishment faction was elected to the post of the treasurer. He defeated Ramesh Wagle of the rival faction. Similarly, Bhuwan Sharma of Nagarik Daily was elected to the post of secretary of the NPU.
