Foreign Secretary Lamsal recommended as Nepal's envoy to Belgium

KATHMANDU, Aug 30: Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal has been recommended as the Nepali envoy to Belgium. Lamsal, who was promoted to Foreign Secretary on December 14, 2023, has 13 months remaining in her tenure.

The current Nepali ambassador to Belgium, Gahendra Raj Bhandari, was appointed in January 2021, and his tenure is about to end. Due to this, the Cabinet meeting has recommended Lamsal for the ambassadorial post.

Meanwhile, the government is set to promote Amrit Rai, who is the senior-most among all joint secretaries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to the position of Foreign Secretary.

Lamsal is Nepal’s first female foreign secretary.
