Museum of Nepali Art – MoNA, Thamel is gearing up for a virtual art exhibition ‘Shilpa Kalakaritako Pratibimba’, which is scheduled to begin on Saturday.

According to a press statement released by MoNA, the online exhibition aims to showcase the statues and sculptures by Nepali artists in traditional and contemporary form. One can visit the exhibition on www.mona.com.np. 

Nepali art; sculptures or paintings, is considered world class. It is a fact that museums and galleries, all over the world, exhibit Nepali arts as an icon of excellence. Auction houses showcase Nepali art as their showpiece to announce their major auctions. But, somewhere along the line, Nepali people have taken this art and culture for granted as per the press statement. 

Nepali art, particularly statues and sculptures, was perfected during the Lichchhavi period. Historians take the Lichchhavi period as a benchmark to study the inception and evolution of sculpture arts of Nepal. With such gratified history and strong foundation of great artistry, Nepali artists continue to create world class art till today.

Moreover, it added, “The 2015 earthquake was a revelation that made us realize and understand the importance of our art and heritage. MoNA would like to take it one step further by recognizing the artists who bring this art to us. Without the artists, art will never be here. As much as we take pride of our majestic art history, we should be even prouder that we still have great artists who dedicate their lives in creating similar or even better works of art. The pride of history is better upheld when the legacy is continued by the present.”

The exhibition continues till June 2.
