KATHMANDU, Aug 25: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) parliamentary party leader Gyanendra Shahi has urged party leaders and cadres not to claim that its Bagmati Province lawmakers have already been removed from office.
Shahi said the party had only submitted a petition to the Bagmati Provincial Assembly Secretariat seeking action against the lawmakers and that merely filing such a petition does not automatically terminate their parliamentary positions.

“I appeal to all RPP leaders and cadres: the Bagmati provincial lawmakers have not been removed from office,” Shahi said in a social media post. “The party has only submitted a petition to the Bagmati Provincial Assembly Secretariat seeking action against them. Submitting a petition does not remove an MP from office.”
He said it would be inappropriate to report or publicize that the lawmakers had been removed until the Speaker makes a formal decision or the competent authority officially declares their removal through the legal process.
“Until the Speaker makes a formal decision or the Election Commission officially declares them removed in accordance with the law, it is not appropriate to publicize that they have lost their positions,” Shahi said. He questioned the wisdom of reporting their removal and spreading what he described as a misleading message across the country before any competent authority has made an official decision.
Shahi also questioned how the party could become stronger if its official representatives and responsible leaders themselves began spreading incorrect information without verifying the facts.
He reiterated that while the party has the authority to take disciplinary action against its lawmakers, submitting a petition seeking action does not automatically terminate their parliamentary positions.
He also stressed that the lawmakers were directly elected by the people and that their positions are based on the voters’ mandate.
“The party can take action, but submitting a petition for action does not mean an MP has been removed from office. More importantly, they are directly elected representatives of the people, and their positions are based on the people’s votes,” Shahi said. “So let’s speak based on facts, not emotions. Let’s spread the truth, not misinformation.”
