The session was held on October 15 with a group of young TEWA members, students of gender studies and other local and foreign participants.[break]
Hope is a feminist who is currently working in Zimbabwe in the Ministry of Women’s Affairs.
She is a consultant/activist for gender equality and an organizational expert and strategist who has also supported several African and international justice groups.
It was in this context that she was invited here to help TEWA in its future progressive work plans.
TEWA has consistently been raising funds locally for a self-reliant development and women’s empowerment for the last 16 years.
It has been mobilizing its donors along with encouraging individuals to social justice.
During the talk program, Hope stated, “Every human is a sexual being, and due to the pressure of maintaining oneself as a social being, one tends to remain silent about one’s sexuality which gives rise to the issues of patriarchy, capitalism and injustice.”
She justifies her belief: “To understand one’s own body is a very important factor in order to respect other beings. Each human has the right to enjoy sex life in the way one wishes to, and thus homosexuality should be accepted.
“The stereotypes have to be unlearnt and a collective voice should be raised to celebrate and respect sexuality,” added Hope.
The discussion itself marks the beginning of expression towards a revolution.
