Senior litterateur Madan Mani Dixit cremated (with video)

KATHMANDU, Aug 15: Senior litterateur Madan Mani Dixit was cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat in the capital on Thursday afternoon.

On the occasion, a squad of Nepal Police offered salutes to late Dixit. His son Binod lit the funeral pyre.

Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, Tourism Minister Yogesh Bhattarai, Former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, Former Minister Bamdev Gautam, Nepal Communist Party General Secretary Bishnu Poudel reached Pashupati Aryaghat to pay him final tribute.

Dixit's mortal remains were kept at his home for the final tribute.

People from various walks of life of the society including cabinet ministers, journalists, literary figures, leaders from the ruling and main opposition parties and civil society members paid final tribute to late Dixit at his home in Kalikasthan earlier today.

Dixit, who was best known for the Madan Puraskar-winning novel Madhavi, passed away on Thursday morning. He was 96.

He was born on February 17, 1923, in Kathmandu.

Dixit was admitted to Sumeru Hospital in Lalitpur last week due to pneumonia attack. He was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday. He was rushed to Himal Hospital at Putalisadak after he fainted at own residence.

The doctors of the hospital pronounced him dead. He was suffering from heart, kidney and respiratory complications.

Late Dixit's literary works include 'Madhavi', 'Rigveda" Kehi Pramukh Sukti' and 'Gas Chamberko Mrityu'.

He had received several accolades including Madan Puruskar, Sajha Puruskar and Padmashree Puruskar for his outstanding contribution to the Nepali literature.

He also has made a huge contribution to Nepal's journalism. He is survived by a spouse, three sons, and a daughter. (With inputs from RSS)
