DOPLA, July 22: A case of mass hysteria reportedly broke loose in Tripura Sundari Municipality-1 of Dolpa district, causing a school to shut down for two days.

Eleven-year-old Laxmi Upadhyay and ten-year-old Padma Thapa fainted in the middle of the morning prayers in Tripura Madhyamik Vidhyala after which chaos ensued amongst the students. The principal, Hemraj Hamal said that all students were lined up for prayers when out of nowhere, two fifth graders lost consciousness. Students ran here and there in fear causing a frenzy after which the school was forced to shut down.

It has been said that the students have passed out many a times in the past, and the incident isn't a new one. The school authorities are now set to find out the reason behind the occurrence by inviting witch doctors to the school and conducting a ceremonial Puja with the help of a local priest.

According to Dhan Prasad Hamal, a local, the school premises was originally a burial site. He believes that supernatural beings host the premises, and considers paranormal activities to be the reason behind such occurrences. However, some speculate that this is the case of mass hysteria.
