SC denies interim-order, all writ petitions to be heard at Constitutional Bench

KATHMANDU, May 27: A single bench led by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JBR, which was hearing 19 writ petitions demanding an interim order to restore the lower house of parliament, has forwarded the writ petitions to the Constitutional Bench.

Following Thursday’s hearing on writ petitions against the House dissolution, CJ Rana decided that all the writ petitions will be heard at the five-member Constittuional Bench. As per the Constittuion of Nepal, CJ Rana himself leads the bench. Other members of the bench, however, are yet to be picked. 


Hearing at the Constitutional Bench will begin from Friday. As many as 30 writ petitions have been registered at the Supreme Court demanding the restoration of the House of Representatives (HoR) which was dissolved by President Bidya Devi Bhandari on May 22 for the second time. Earlier the House was dissolved on December 20 last year. It was restored by a Supreme Court order on February 23 earlier this year.
