KATHMANDU, Feb 22: Sandeep Lamichhane is going to approach the Supreme Court today, demanding that the ban on him from going abroad be lifted and he be allowed to play cricket matches in the UAE. Earlier, although the Patan High Court ordered the release of Lamichhane, who faces a rape charge, on bail but the court restricted him from going abroad.
As per the court’s order, Lamichhane has to get permission from the police even to leave the Kathmandu Valley. Before going out of Kathmandu, he had taken permission from the police. Saroj Krishna Ghimire, Lamichhane's legal advisor, said that Lamichhane’s right to personal freedom and freedom of movement have been violated by the restrictions on him.

After a clean-sweep in the ICC World Cup League-2 triangular series, Nepal is visiting the UAE next week. There, Nepal will play 2 matches each with Papua New Guinea and the UAE. Next Monday, the first match is scheduled to be played against Papua New Guinea. Even before that, Sandeep Lamichhane is trying to get the ban on him from going abroad lifted.
If the apex court does not change the high court’s decision, the Nepali team will go to the UAE without Lamichhane.
