Govt attorney appeals to High Court for maximum punishment in rape case against Sandeep Lamichhane

KATHMANDU, March 14: The district government attorney has filed an appeal at the Patan High Court, seeking maximum punishment for cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane in the rape case against him.


The Office of the District Government Attorney submitted an appeal petition, arguing that the District Court in Kathmandu had handed Lamichhane a sentence lesser than what they had requested.

On January 10, the Kathmandu District Court sentenced Lamichhane to eight years in prison, along with a fine of Rs 300,000 and compensation of Rs 200,000 to the victim.


The district attorney has urged for a 13-year prison term for Sandeep, citing that the victim was a minor. Sources reveal that the district government attorney’s office has approached the Patan High Court, contending that the district court's decision did not align with their request.


Cricketer Lamichhane has also filed an appeal at the Patan High Court demanding that the district court's verdict be overturned and he be acquitted.
