KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA):
Kathmandu District Committee of Nepal National School Football Association (NNSFA) is organizing Kathmandu District-wide Inter-school Football Tournament from August 31.

Organizing a press conference in the capital on Wednesday Milan Gurung, secretary of the district committee, informed that the tournament will feature all least 50 teams from Kathmandu. The tournament will serve as the qualifier for the regional tournament to be held later.

"We are organizing the tournament with a view to identifying talented footballers for the future," said Gurung. The U-16 age group tournament will be played across three venues in Kathmandu -- Sano Gaucharan, Tokha and Lab School (Kirtipur). Subash Neupane, president of the district committee, said the number of participating schools would increase in coming years as it was the first edition of the tournament after the formation of NSSFA some six months ago.

"We have formed nearly 20 district committees so far and as many district committees will be formed within two months," said Bimal Thapa, the secretary of NNSFA. According to Thapa, the district-level competition will be followed by a regional tournament and the top teams from each region will be selected for the central-level tournament. The central-level tournament is likely to be held in Pokhara, Kaski and will feature five teams from Central Region, four each from Eastern and Western regions, two from Mid-western Region and one from Far-western Region.
