Similarly, Magar had won bronze in the World Championship. Rai received Rs 3,000 and Magar Rs 2,000 along with letters of appreciation. Similarly, differently-abled female player Pushpa Bhandari was also honored on the occasion.
Bhandari had claimed golds in the first and second national sambo championships. She received a letter of appreciation and Rs 1,500. President of the federation Dhananjay Shrestha and National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama handed over the letters of appreciation and cash prizes to the players. Meanwhile, a day-long referee refresher seminar was also held on Wednesday.
Kathmandu inter-school football from Aug 31
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Kathmandu District Committee of Nepal National School Football Association (NNSFA) is organizing Kathmandu District-wide Inter-school Football Tournament from August 31.
Organizing a press conference in the capital on Wednesday Milan Gurung, secretary of the district committee, informed that the tournament will feature all least 50 teams from Kathmandu. The tournament will serve as the qualifier for the regional tournament to be held later.
"We are organizing the tournament with a view to identifying talented footballers for the future," said Gurung. The U-16 age group tournament will be played across three venues in Kathmandu -- Sano Gaucharan, Tokha and Lab School (Kirtipur). Subash Neupane, president of the district committee, said the number of participating schools would increase in coming years as it was the first edition of the tournament after the formation of NSSFA some six months ago.
NNSFA plans to conduct the tournament in all districts of the country. "We have formed nearly 20 district committees so far and as many district committees will be formed within two months," said Bimal Thapa, the secretary of NNSFA. According to Thapa, the district-level competition will be followed by a regional tournament and the top teams from each region will be selected for the central-level tournament. The central-level tournament is likely to be held in Pokhara, Kaski and will feature five teams from Central Region, four each from Eastern and Western regions, two from Mid-western Region and one from Far-western Region.
