The registration digits of motor-bikes have now reached Ba 99 Pa 9999. Sources said the number reached two days ago and that the new registration of two-wheelers cannot be done under three digits, i.e. 100, unless the regulations are amended. A total of 1,000,000 motorbikes have been registered in the Bagmati Zonal Transport Management Office.

Talking to www.myrepublica.com, Gokarna Upadhyaya, spokesperson of Department of Transport Management, said a regulations amendment proposal has already been tabled in the Council of Ministers. The Cabinet is likely to amend the proposal paving the way to the new registration of motorbikes.
Similarly, Rajan Gautam, sales advisor of Hansraj Hulaschand Bajaj Showroom, Teku, said the company has already put a number of bikes in the registration process, expressing hope that the DTM would clear the hassles at the earliest. He added that the customers are turning up at the showroom as usual and sounded optismistic that the new registration would open before Dashain festival.
According to sources, on June 28, the Bill Committee of the Council of Ministers had received an amendment proposal. It shall come into effect once it is endorsed by the Cabinet and published in the national gazette.
A regular meeting of the Cabinet has been scheduled for October 7. However, it is unclear whether the chief secretary will table it in the meeting. Therefore, the entrepreneurs of two-wheelers are not sure whether the registration for motorbikes will open before Dashain festival.
