KATHMANDU, April 7: Commuters of Kathmandu and Lalitpur can travel by Sajha Yatayat (SY) buses soon as the cooperative is all prepared to start services within a week.

The cooperative, which established some 50 years ago had halted services 11 years ago, said that its buses will ply the city roads from the first day of Nepali New Year.

"We are all prepared to run the service from the first day of Nepali New Year," Mahendra Raj Pandey, manager of the cooperative, said, adding, "The service will be formally launched next Saturday by Chief Secretary Lilamani Poudel." [break]

According to Pandey, the cooperative has recruited six female conductors hoping that the female conductors would treat passengers properly. "All conductors are at least SLC graduates. Educated conductors understand how to better treat passengers," he added.

He said that the company will promote female conductors in the buses. The cooperative has brought 16 advanced buses built by the Indian motor company, TATA. The organization said that all the buses meet Euro-3 standards.

Pandey claimed that passengers will not have to feel cheated in the buses as it will charge fares fixed by the government. The passengers will also get ticket in the buses. Buses and micro buses operating in the capital do not provide ticket to the passengers and charge arbitrarily. The cooperative is working to manage transit ticket in the buses. "Passengers who have to change bus to reach their destination will have to pay more for transit ticket," he said.

The cooperative said passengers can travel more comfortably in SY buses as all the buses have 54 seats. The cooperative has also installed two close circuit cameras for passengers´ safety. Pandey said that passengers can also get information and entertainment in the buses as all the buses have LCD televisions.

The buses will initially operate along Kalanki, Kalimati, Tripureshwor, Nayabaneshwor, Sinamangal and Airport. Likewise, some buses will operate along Satdobato, Jwalakhel, Tripureshwor,Jamal, Teaching Hospital and Naya Bus park.
