KATHMANDU, Dec 2: Rojina Shrestha of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has been elected as the Ward Chairperson of Ward-16 in Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC). This marks the RSP's first victory at the local level.
The RSP had not participated in the previous local elections. Shrestha was elected with 29,202 votes, while her nearest rival Laxmi Ratna Tuladhar of the UML received 2,220 votes.

The NC, which had won in 2079 BS, came to the third position this time. NC candidate Devendra Pathak secured 2,214 votes, placing himself in the third position. Deputy Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh, who is also a former vice-president of NC, had cast his vote from this ward.
Similarly, Min Bahadur Manandhar of the CPN (Unified Socialist) received 1,092 votes, while Shyam Krishna Shrestha of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) secured 7,742 votes. Independent candidate Devendra Kumar Shrestha garnered 498 votes, and another independent candidate Sam Shakya received 334 votes. A by-election was held here following the demise of Mukunda Rijal, who had been elected from the NC.
