KATHMANDU, Aug 7: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Ramesh Prasai has criticized the government, saying he feels "ashamed" when he recalls the promises he made during the election campaign.
Speaking at Friday's meeting of the House of Representatives, Prasai said he had campaigned on the promise that, under an RSP-led government, citizens would be able to access government services online instead of standing in long queues.
He said the situation has instead deteriorated, with people now forced to queue for essential goods and public services.

"Seeing people stand in line all day, overnight and even until midnight just to get cooking gas has genuinely made me feel ashamed," he said.
Prasai questioned whether the prime minister and ministers were also facing cooking gas shortages at their official residences. He said that if the government's claim that gas supplies are sufficient is true, those involved in black marketing should face strict action.
"If cooking gas is available in sufficient quantities and black marketing is still taking place, what is stopping the two-thirds majority government from taking strong action against black marketers?" he asked.
He also criticized the government's digital service delivery, saying citizens continue to suffer because government servers frequently malfunction despite repeated promises to provide public services online.
Prasai said people had not voted for a new government merely for "polished and handsome faces" but had expected a change in the character, conduct and performance of those in power.
