KATHMANDU, Oct 19: The cadres of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) staged a sarcastic protest themed “Re 1 Donation Collection” in Kathmandu on Saturday, mocking the donation of a plot of land by Bhatbhateni owner Min Bahadur Gurung for the construction of the central office building of the ruling party CPN-UML.
Amid a protest staged against the arrest of party chairman Rabi Lamichhane at Maitighar on Saturday, RSP leaders and supporters criticized the construction of the UML building in a sarcastic manner.
Former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Lamichhane was arrested by the police on Friday evening on charges of misappropriation of cooperative funds. In protest against the arrest, RSP workers have hit the streets across the nation.

At Maitighar, the supporters of the RSP carried placards and chanted slogans such as “Give justice to cooperative victims”, “Corrupt government is dead”, “Bhat-Bhutanese government is dead”.
The protestors criticized the government claiming that justice should be given to cooperative victims, the guilty should be prosecuted and the innocent should be spared.
Lamichhane was arrested and sent to Pokhara after Kaski District Court issued an arrest warrant against him on Friday afternoon. He is being investigated on charges of cooperative fraud and organized crime.
He has been accused of misappropriating the savings of at least five cooperatives as the then managing director of Gorkha Media Network.
