KATHMANDU, Jan 24: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Lingden has pointed out the need for a new political consensus in the country.

In an interaction with editors of some media here on Tuesday, ChairmanLingden asserted, "Problems are increasing one after another in the country. Frustration is flaring up among the people. Businessmen are fleeing because there is no expected improvement in the national economy. We have not been able to prevent migration of youths. That is why a new political consensus is needed in the country to address all the problems."

Bating for new thinking, consensus and a new political system to make a departure from status quo, Lingden shared that his party was preparing for spearheading a movement to seek an outlet to the prevailing problems.

Chairman Lingden said his party would stage peaceful protests on various issues ranging from inflation to matters of public concern starting next month. He added that his party is in favor of people and for good-governance.

He clarified that his party is in favor of democracy with monarchy as a guardian. "RPP is not in a position to go back and is not pressing for monarchy as in the past. Our party is in favor of democracy with the king as the guardian of the country. It is our old stance."

He argued that it is a wrong narrative to argue king and democracy are mutually exclusive. Stating that many countries in the world with monarchy have full-fledged democracy, he reiterated that his party was in favor of having a king in the symbolic role as specified by the constitution.
