KATHMANDU, Sept 27: A bike rider has gone missing in Banasthali, Kathmandu, after an overflowing river induced by heavy rainfall swept away the bike he was riding on Friday evening.
According to the District Police Range (DPR), Kathmandu, the rider who has not been identified yet was swept away by the flooded Bhachaa river at Annapurna Chowk in Banasthali at 6:15 pm. Superintendent of Police (SP) Nabaraj Adhikari informed Republica that the bike with the registration number Ba 02-018 Pa 2973 was recovered immediately after the incident while a group of police personnel are still searching for the rider.

“A joint team of police personnel from the Metropolitan Police Circle, Balaju, and the DPR have been mobilized to identify and search for the missing person,” SP Adhikari told Republica.
Heavy rainfall over the past two days has led to significant flooding in the rivers of Kathmandu, impacting areas such as Shivapuri, Sundarijal, and Godavari. The Meteorological Forecast Division has reported that water level in the Bagmati River has exceeded the danger thresholds, particularly in Khokana, Gaurighat, and Balkhu areas. Furthermore, the Bishnumati River has also surpassed safety limits at Gongabu Bus Park. The division had informed the general public through an SMS alert to remain cautious if they are travelling in the said areas after 2:30 pm on Friday.
