“He had killed the deer with a gun in his possession. While killing of the animal itself is an illegal act, he was also found possessing the gun illegally. The gun is registered under his wife´s name,” said Jhamak Bahadur Karki, chief conservation officer at Chitwan National Park.

“He will face charges under Arms and Ammunition Act,” he added. According to Karki, the national park will hand Rana over to the Nawalparasi Police to proceed with the case. “If he is convicted of killing deer, he is set to face a jail term of 6 to 2 years,” Karki said.

Rana was held by locals of Pithauli VDC on June 13, after they spotted a dead deer in his red Maruti Suzuki.
