"As avalanches and landslides from the surrounding mountains continue to occur in Kyanjin valley, we decided to airlift the locals to Dhunche," said Gautam Rimal, assistant chief district officer, Rasuwa. "Everyone in the village will be rescued by Tuesday. Some of those rescued have already started to travel to Kathmandu to live with their relatives, while others have decided to stay in Dhunche and live in tents," he added.
According to Dengrup Tamang, a local of Langtang, people have been staying in the village in fear of landslides. "Although we survived the deadly earthquake, avalanches have, on numerous occasions, nearly claimed our lives. The village is not habitable anymore." Locals were finally able to breathe a sigh of relief after Army helicopters rescued them from Langtang on Sunday and Monday."None of the villagers were able to sleep properly for fear of another avalanche. There were 7 avalanches on Sunday alone," said a local.
The administration has categorized Langtang as a "highly affected" area and distributed relief materials in the first phase of the aid efforts.
