POKHARA, Sept 26: A massive avalanche has hit the base camp area of Mountain ​​Manaslu. Locals said that the avalanche occurred between Camp 3 and Camp 4 of Manaslu Himal in Chumanubri Rural Municipality-1, Samagaon.


Foreign tourists had arrived to climb Manaslu Himal through various trekking companies in this season. Tourism entrepreneurs have said that there is a suspicion that the tourists and their Nepali colleagues may have been caught in the avalanche.

According to Karma Chhewang Lama, chairman of Chumanubri Rural Municipality-1, even helicopters could not go there due to bad weather. At this time there is only a communication link at base camp. “The area where the incident happened is very high. Nepali climbers and foreigners are affected by the avalanche," he said.


Bir Bahadur Lama of Chumanubri-1, Samagaon, also said that an avalanche has occurred and rescue efforts are underway. “We have seen a helicopter coming and rescue is currently underway. However, due to the bad weather, rescue has become difficult,”  he said.
