Reinstate CA: Deuba to PM

By No Author
KATHMANDU, June 6: Nepali Congress (NC) leader and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Wednesday suggested to Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai that the present constitutional and political crisis could be resolved by reinstating the dissolved Constituent Assembly (CA).

He, however, said that the disputes in constitution writing should be resolved prior to reinstating the CA.[break]

Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai had reached Deuba´s residence in Budhanilkantha seeking suggestions for ending the ongoing political impasse.

"The present crisis can be resolved by first resolving the disputes in constitution writing and then reinstating the CA to endorse the agreements," Deuba informed.

"I told him that if the Maoists really want to end the crisis and bring a new constitution they should be ready to resolve the remaining disputes in constitution writing and reinstate the CA."

Stating that the government´s decision to unilaterally announce CA polls was constitutionally and politically a wrong move, Deuba said the prime minister should step down to remove the mistrust between Maoist and non-Maoist parties.

According to Deuba, Bhattarai assured him that the latter was ready to step down if doing so would help build consensus.
