Registration of minister Singh’s party scrapped

KATHMANDU, March 6: The Election Commission (EC) has scrapped the registration of the political party of the Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation Prem Bahadur Singh for failing to furnish the report of income and expenditure for three consecutive years.

EC said that the registrations of 15 political parties including Samajwadi Janata Party of Singh were annulled for failing to oblige to the existing provision.

Singh, however, claimed that his party has not been scrapped.

“The EC doesn’t hold such rights,” he claimed.  

EC Spokesperson Basudev Guragain told Republcia Online that the registrations of the parties were scrapped as they failed to furnish the report for three consecutive years and didn’t respond to the clarification sought by the commission.

Likewise, EC has fined Rs 100 to 120 political parties including that of the three sitting ministers for failing to submit report of income and expenditure within the deadline.

Those facing the music are CPN (ML) of Deputy prime minister CP Mainali, Bahujan Shakti Party of Minister for Science and Technology Bishendra Paswan and Madhes Samata Party of State minister for Industry Meghraj Nepali.
