GORKHA, Feb 23: The registration of cottage industries in Gorkha district has increased significantly after the local government decided to carry out strict inspection on businesses. The local government has also put forth a provision which makes registration compulsory to receive subsidy. From mid-July to mid-January of the current fiscal year, 575 hotels and restaurants were registered with the Cottage and Small Industry of Gorkha.
According to the statistics of the Cottage and Small Industry of Gorkha, 1,313 agricultural and animal husbandry farms are registered. After mid-July of 2019, 460 agricultural farms were registered. “In the current fiscal year 2019/20, mostly hotels and agriculture farms are registered,” said Dinesh Poudel, head of the Cottage and Small Industry.

According to Poudel, the number of registration has increased as farm owners need to register to receive subsidy from the federal, provincial and the local government. “After they complete the procedure of documents of occupation as entrepreneurs, we register it,” said Poudel.
Most of the people have registered agricultural and animal husbandry farms in the name of women entrepreneurs. If the business is registered under male owners then the fee is Rs 6,100 whereas women entrepreneurs have to pay only Rs 200 for registration. In the current fiscal year, 12 grill industries, 22 rice mills, 7 construction companies, 1 Dhaka industry, 12 furniture industries, 29 tailors, 18 computer institutes and 12 beauty parlors have registered with the local authorities.
Similarly, 9 brick industry, 3 crusher industries and 12 sand processing industries have also registered with the local government.
Likewise, workshops, cotton industries, transportation services, bakery industries, mobile maintenance centers and various industries have registered with the local body.
According to the Cottage and Small Industry of Gorkha, the collection of revenue has also increased after the registration of businesses increased.
