The workshop was organized as a part of the 'Promoting Ethical Culture' project of Transparency International Nepal. Ncell has been supporting the project as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Altogether 50 representatives from various chambers and trade associations of 12 districts in the eastern region, representatives from TI Nepal and its affiliated organizations, and senior government officials participated in the workshop.
Business community held discussion on government's policy and procedures, and hassles that they have faced as well as challenge during the business.
Participating businessmen and civil society representatives also noted unhealthy competition and unfair practices among businessmen and also lack of clear processes and policies as major obstacles to doing ethical business.
"Mainly lack of clear processes and policies, and discretionary authority provisioned to government officials are affecting ethical business environment," said Pawan Kumar Sarada, President of Morang Merchant Association, said at the program.
