KATHMANDU, Jan 14: Reed Model School of Swayambhu ended the unbeaten streak of New Diamond Academy on Friday in the Dhorpatan Women's Double League Volleyball Tournament being held in the capital.

Reed Model studded with seven Indian players also strengthened its title bid after a straight sets win over New Diamond, one of the title contenders, to maintain its cent percent winning streak.

Reed Model, which also include two former Indian national players, overcame New Diamond 25-16, 25-21, 25-23 on Friday, a day after beating defending champion Armed Police Force in 3-1 sets.  In another match of the day, Reed Model eased past Chandeshwari Youth Club of Ramechhap 25-4, 25-10, 25-13 to witness four wins from as many matches played.

Despite beating two major title contenders, Reed Model's coach Khum Gaunle took a cautious approach about his team's title credentials. "We are a bit pressure free after beating APF and New Diamond in the first leg. However, we are yet to play the second leg and we must improve our performance in the next leg," Gaunle said.

"The team coordination has been better in comparison to the first match we played. The players had travelled for more than 25 hours before they played against APF in the first match. However, it was a bit easy to beat New Diamond today. Now we shall given chance to new players according to the strength of our opponent," he summed up.

Despite facing the defeat, APF leads the standings with 21 points from seven matches.

However, Reed Model has three-match advantage over the leader and has added 12 points maintaining its cent percent winning run. It stands fourth in the table.

New Diamond coach Kumar Rai pointed out weak defense as the reason of defeat. "The match against Reed Model was vital for us to present a strong challenge for the title. But we failed to stop them due to poor defense," he said.

In another match of the day, APF, Western Region and New Diamond Sports Club emerged victorious. APF overcame host Dhorpatan Sports Club 25-8, 25-10, 25-10 to earn fifth win from six matches. APF has 15 points and stands second in the standings.

Western Region overcame Tribhuvan Army Club 25-15, 25-21, 25-23 and has 12 points from five matches.

Meanwhile, the junior teams of New Diamond Academy and Bijeshwari Gyan Mandir opened their account in the points table on Friday. New Diamond edged past Bijeshwari 20-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-18, 16-14.  New Diamond earned two points and Bijeshwari one point.
