The committee has recommended the names of Santosh Narayan Shrestha, Muktinath Shrestha and Navraj Adhikari for the chairman of the SEBON. There is a legal provision that one of the three recommended should be appointed as the chairman by the cabinet meeting.
The recommendation committee formed earlier selected Muktinath Shrestha, Santosh Narayan Shrestha, Krishna Bahadur Karki, Navraj Adhikari and Chiranjivi Chapagain from among 19 applicants in the first stage.
At that time, only two candidates participated in the interview, making the selection committee unable to make a recommendation according to the provisions of the SEBON Act. The selection process was halted as there is a legal provision in the Act that three people should be recommended for the chairmanship.
On Sunday, the selection committee conducted interviews with Navaraj Adhikari and Krishna Bahadur Karki. Chiranjivi Chapagain, who was on the shortlist, did not participate in the interview. Due to intense political infighting, the position of Chairman of the SEBON has been vacant since January 5, 2024.
