Ready to dissolve HLPC if election is ensured: Dahal

KATHMANDU, July 25: UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the major four political parties were ready to exercise maximum flexibility if the agitating political parties were ready to join the November 19 Constituent Assembly (CA) polls.



Prachanda said, "We are ready for organizing a round table conference, increase the seats of proportional electoral system in line with the previous CA election and reconstitute the high-level political committee by dissolving the present one. But, for this assurance of the dissenting parties for CA election is essential." [break]



The UCPN (Maoist) made such remarks at an interaction programme organized by the Professionals´ Alliance for Peace and Democracy (PAPAD) on Thursday, reads a statement issued by the General Secretary of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Om Sharma on behalf of PAPAD.



Likewise, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala said that the date of the upcoming CA election should not be changed stating that country´s nationality was at risk.



"We did not accept the current government on our interests. This is compulsion of situation. I pray to Baidhyaji (Mohan Baidhya) to take part in the election by understanding this compulsion," Koirala appealed the agitating CPN-Maoist.



Similarly, CPN (UML) Chairman Jhalanath Khanal said that though he was not against the demands raised by the agitating parties, the parties reached a consensus to form the current government with the compulsion of holding the election."



Likewise, CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidhya ´Kiran´ said that his party was not protesting the election in an absolute manner but the process and style.



"Election happens in consensus. Election will not be held by sidelining some and taking others into confidence. Election is not for inviting next confrontation," Baidhya added.



Baidhya said that scrap of the 25-point order issued by the President, dissolution of the government, formation of the new government under the leadership of political parties and postponement of the November 19 election for holding the CA election.



Chairman of PAPAD and FNJ Shiva Gaunle said the election s should be held at any means as there was no option to election in a democracy.



President of Nepal Bar Association Hari Krishna Karki, Chair of Nepal Engineering Association Mahendra Gurung, General Secretary of Nepal Medical Association Muktiram Shrestha and Chair of Nepal University Teachers´ Association Rameshwor Upadhyay and others drew attention of the top leaders to launch the election campaign by forging consensus as early as possible.
