DANG, May 20: Rautes have staged a sit-in in front of the Area Administration Office (AAO), Tulsipur on Sunday demanding free movement in the forests.

Chief of the nomadic tribe Main Bahadur Shahi and others staged a sit-in from 12:30 to one in the afternoon and handed over a memorandum to the chief of the office. [break]Shahi also urged the Chairman of the Raute Welfare Committee Satya Devi Adhikari to convey their demands to the prime minister.

“Please tell the prime minister to not restrict movement of our tribe in any forest,” Shahi said over phone while still staging a sit-in.

“Our community is facing problems. People are stopping us from entering the jungles. Please tell the prime minister to consider the welfare of Rautes,” Shahi continued.

The memorandum drafted with the help of the Raute Welfare Committee was sent to the Chairman of the Constituent Assembly Subas Nembang through the Area Administration Office on Sunday.

“Any kind of political or federal system should not impinge on the age-old preferential rights of the Rautes on the natural resources of the jungles,” the letter demands.
