The administration had imposed curfew effective from 2 pm on Saturday after the situation in Gaur turned violent. The protestors who were opposing the government's decision to move the Land Survey and Land Revenue Offices to Chandranigahapur had intensified their protests and resorted to violence after a police's van hit Ram Ashish Thakur, a protestor, who died while undergoing treatment.Thakur, 61, of Gaur-10 had died on Friday evening while receiving treatment at Gaur Hospital. The enraged locals had taken to streets and forwarded a seven-point demand, including compensation to the bereaved family and declaration of the deceased as a martyr.
The District Administration Office (DAO) had called the agitating sides led by Rautahat Chamber of Commerce and Industry for talks to settle the issue. Nepal Red Cross Society Rautahat Chairman Sanjiv Kumar Mallik had mediated the talks between the DAO and agitating groups. The talks, however, could not yield result as the agitating groups demanded removal of curfew and demobilization of the security force as a pre-condition for talks.
Second round of talks between the administration and the locals took place at 9 am on Sunday morning. Chief District Officer, Madan Bhujel, Regional Officer, Ram Kumar Acharya, DIG Devendra Subedi of the Central Region, and DIG Ram Sharan Poudel of Armed Police Force, among others, were present for the talks.
