“I want to understand the core issues of human trafficking so that I can make it a global issue and help people,” said Darshan Rauniyar. He said he would focus on the issue of human trafficking in South Asia by working with the United Nations.[break]
“Anuradha Koirala, who is also a CNN Hero, 2010, is a pride for Nepal and all Nepalis around the world,” he said, adding, “I will work with her toward reducing the ratio of human trafficking.”
He is not only the first Nepali to be represented in the US congress election but also the first candidate from South Asia. After the primary election on August 7, 2012, voters will choose between two finalists on November 6. Other four democrats are vying for this open seat.
“I want to give back something to the society and people who made me what I am today,” Rauniyar said.
Rauniyar, who is in Kathmandu for NRN conference, reiterated that healthcare, education and economy are his main agendas.
“I just need a moral support from my country Nepal to win the election,” he said.
