“We will also urge the bus operator to provide the families of the victims with insurance money at the earliest,” added the CDO.
Over 50 people had sustained injuries in the accident. Sixteen passengers who were critically injured had been airlifted to Kathmandu and have been undergoing treatment at the Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj.
Among the injured, three have returned home after treatment. Other injured have been undergoing treatment at Rasuwa District Hospital and Trishuli Hospital of Nuwakot.
CDO Gelal said overcrowding was the main reason behind the accident. The 34-seat bus was carrying around 90 people when it met with the accident.
Passengers are forced to make perilous journey in overcrowded vehicles as only a limited number of vehicles are in operation due to the ongoing fuel crisis created by the Indian blockade.
