Rana siblings dominate NSA Cup

KATHMANDU, Sept 5: Shailesh Rana won five gold medals on the opening day of the First NSA Cup National Age Group and Open Swimming Championship on Sunday.



Rana won men´s 200 m freestyle, 100 m butterfly, 400 m freestyle, 200 m individual medley and 100 m breaststroke. Rana clocked 2 minutes 28.38 seconds in the final stage of the 200 m freestyle at the Satdobato Swimming Complex to beat Dilip Thapa Magar (2 min 36.09 sec) of Nepal Army. [break]



In the 100 m butterfly, Rana clocked 1 minute 11.54 seconds to leave behind Army´s Khim Bahadur KC, who took 1 minute 17.47 seconds to complete the distance. Rana completed the 200 m medley in 2 minutes 49.84 seconds while his nearest rival Banin Shrestha´s timing was 2 minutes 54.25 seconds.



Likewise, Rana left behind Pravesh Adhikari in the 400 m freestyle as they clocked 5 minutes 15.94 seconds and 5 minutes 41.91 seconds respectively. Rana took 1 minute 14.22 seconds to complete the 100 m breaststroke ahead of Banin Shrestha, who clocked 1 minute 21.04 seconds.







Rana´s sibling Shaila won women´s 200 m freestyle, 100 m backstroke and 200 m individual medley clocking 2 minutes 39.97 seconds, 1 minute 22.31 seconds and 3 minutes 3.03 seconds respectively.



Meanwhile, Jayant Gurung won 100 m freestyle in the 15-17 boys´ group, while Shreya Dhital won the gold in the same event and age group of girls. Ceila Devi Gurung won 100 m freestyle in the girls´ 13-14 years age category.







Likewise, Shirish Gurung, Aditi Ghimire, Oshin Bharatee, Lily Colston, Anamol Gandhi, Sina Mathema, Pushpa Raj Shahi, Pravesh Adhikari, Ceila Devi Gurung and Ashish Khadka won gold medals in different events on day one.



Altogether 299 swimmers will contest in 61 events in the two-day championship organized by Nepal Swimming Association.
