KATHMANDU, Dec 4: VSO Nepal in coordination with CECI, KOICA, Peace Corps and UN Volunteers celebrated the International Volunteers Day (IVD) by organizing a rally from Basantapur to Bhrikuti Mandap on Saturday. The event aimed at celebrating volunteerism and raise awareness on the contribution of volunteers in Nepal.
Every year IVD is celebrated on December 5 across the world, but it was celebrated in Nepal on December 2 this year with the theme ‘Volunteers as First Responders in Times of Crisis’, while plans are also underway to mark the day on December 5, informed Subin Gurung, national volunteer from VSO Nepal. According to him, as many as 300 people participated in the rally.

Meanwhile, YPEER-Nepal demonstrated a flash mob after the rally on the theme of importance of volunteerism among youths. Live performance by Kutumba kept the volunteers cheerful and energetic after the flash mob.
Likewise, 20 selected volunteers from various volunteering agencies shared stories about their experiences. The winner for best story will be announced on December 5 on the occasion of International Volunteers Day.
