Rai snatches lead after third day

KATHMANDU, June 15: Mani Rai of Dharan shot two-under 70 on third day of the Surya Nepal Central Open at the Gokarna Golf Club on Wednesday and jumped to the top of the leader-board.



Rai took one-stroke lead over defending champion Shiva Ram Shrestha after the third day of the third event of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2011-012.[break]



After the completion of 54 holes, Rai has a total of seven-under 209, while Shrestha, who also played two-under 70 on Wednesday, is one stroke behind at six-under 210.

Ram Krishna Shrestha produced the best card of the day with six-under 66 and jumped to the third spot on the leader-board, where overnight leader Samundra Giri also hanged on the same position after producing a card of one over 73 on Wednesday. Shrestha and Giri have three-day score of five-under 211.



Rabi Khadka is fifth at 215 after the third-day score of 73, while Ram Thapa fired four-under 68 to stay sixth with the total score of even-par 216.



Three pros Surya Prasad Sharma, Ramesh Adhikari and Deepak Thapa Magar are tied for seventh with the score of two-over 218. Sanjay Lama and Ramesh Nagarkoti shared the 10th position at 219.



In amateur section, Tashi Tsering played three-over 75 for a total of 221 to take two-stroke lead over Bikash Bogati. Bogati scored four-over 76 for a total of 223. Bhuwan Gurung is distant third at 233 after the horrible round of 81.



After the final round on Thursday, the winning pro will receive Rs 90,000 while the runner-up will get Rs 57,000.
