KATHMANDU, Dec 2: Lawmakers at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of parliament on Friday vented ire against top officials of the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoTCA) for not dealing with cases of thefts of aircrafts´ spare parts seriously and instructed the MoTCA to take action against those involved within a week.

Though Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) reported series of thefts, including loss of a fly-away kit and spare wheels of Boeing 757 and landing gears of Twin Otters, neither the corporation nor the ministry has seriously probed the cases. [break]

The cost of the lost spare parts were estimated to cost around Rs 150 million.

PAC in the past too had issued strong-worded instructions to the MoTCA to identify the wrongdoers and land axe on them.

"Sadly, those instructions were never implemented. Hence, we have instructed it yet again to take prompt actions on those cases and to report us within a week,” Ram Krishna Yadav, chairman of PAC.

However, Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Lokendra Bista Magar said, “It is true the initial investigation was not rewarding, but we will soon start fresh investigations. I will do whatever I can to punish the wrongdoers,” he stated.
